Lyrics
[Intro]
Mm
Ground control
Mm-mm
[Verse 1]
They sealed me in a suit of sparkle and shame
Leather lace and glitter
Sequins stitched right through the flame
I signed for sixteen orbits
Not a runway walk
Got my helmet full of eyeliner
And I cannot even talk
[Chorus]
What's with the leather lace
The sequins and the lycra
I thought I was going into space
Won't somebody please explain
To ground control
(To ground control)
[Choir]
Looking good in space
Looking good in space
From ground control
We're filming all the show tonight
[Verse 2]
I asked for rendered rockets
Tungsten and titanium thrust
They handed me a corset
And a chest full of gold dust
The comms are running static
But the cameras never blink
Ground control keeps laughing
At the mascara that I think
[Chorus]
What's with the leather lace
The sequins and the lycra
I thought I was going into space
Won't somebody please explain
To ground control
(To ground control)
[Choir]
Looking good in space
Looking good in space
From ground control
We're filming all the show tonight
[Verse 3]
They're playing my disaster
For the ratings and the views
So I'll make the whole descending
A parade nobody can refuse
I'll spin the wheels of fashion
Where the stars refuse to fall
If they catch me on the camera
Then I'll give them all the show
[Verse 4]
Now I want that mirror finish
On the cargo door tonight
Roll the red, no, roll the glitter
Let it shimmer out of sight
A highway made of sequins
Leading straight up to the moon
If I'm going down in orbit
Then I'll take the trophy too
[Chorus]
What's with the leather lace
The sequins and the lycra
I thought I was going into space
Okay I'll own this show
Ground control
(Ground control)
[Choir]
Looking good in space
Looking good in space
From ground control
We're filming all the show tonight
[Verse 5]
Now I live my life fabulous
In case the aliens blink
I'll be the disco supernova
At the far end of the brink
The void can keep its silence
And its cold indifferent dust
But I can make a theater
Out of every empty thrust
[Verse 6]
But listen close ground control
I have one request to make
Nobody warned me of the baggage
That this voyage had to take
It's chicken vindaloo at breakfast
And the crew won't stop and stare
There are things you should not do in space
And now we're floating everywhere
[Chorus]
What's with the leather lace
The sequins and the lycra
I thought I was going into space
Won't somebody please explain
To ground control
(To ground control)
[Choir]
Looking good in space
Looking good in space
From ground control
We're filming all the show tonight
[Verse 7]
The side effects are dazzling
The heat is getting high
Ground control is dutiful
But darling so am I
If the galaxy's a stage set
Then I'm its leading star
So adjust my silver training
And adjust my silver tar
[Verse 8]
They want a legend not a pilot
So I'll burn like a crown
I'll outshine every constellation
While I'm orbiting this town
The suits are just the surface
Of the heart that's in the steel
And ground control will witness
What a diva of space feels
[Verse 9]
So tell me I'm a spectacle
Tell me sparkle has a use
Tell me gravity's a rumor
And my glitter is the truth
From the launch pad to the rings
They will never shut me down
I went to space in sequins
And I owned this whole town
[Chorus]
What's with the leather lace
The sequins and the lycra
I thought I was going into space
But I'll own this whole show
Ground control
(Ground control)
[Choir]
Looking good in space
Looking good in space
From ground control
We're filming all the show tonight
(All the show tonight)
(All the show tonight)
