Lyrics
[Intro]
Yeah
Mm-hmm
Babylon
Uh
[Chorus]
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Babylon raised me I speak the raw truth
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
[Verse 1]
I came from the river where the two waters meet
Amorite blood in me I never retreat
Two Hundred and eighty-two laws on the clay
I wrote every word and I meant what I say
If a builder builds wrong and the house falls down
Then that builder pays with his own life in this town
No excuses no favor no money no name
A commoner noble the sentence the same
[Chorus]
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Babylon raised me I speak the raw truth
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
[Verse 2]
A slave and a free man both get their day
A widow a merchant the poor and the great
I put the stele where the people can read
So nobody bends it to serve their own greed
Strong men forget and the powerful lie
So I cut it in diorite cooler than ice
Susa took it away but it still stands tall
My justice don't die no it answers the call
[Bridge]
Law is law
Stone is stone
Kings will fall
The word goes on
Law is law
Stone is stone
[Chorus]
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Babylon raised me I speak the raw truth
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
[Verse 3]
Three thousand years later they still study the name
Every courtroom on earth kinda plays my game
I ain't perfect I know I had cracks in the plan
But I gave the world order and a law for the man
So when you point a finger remember the throne
The first one to write it down stood alone
[Chorus]
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Babylon raised me I speak the raw truth
Code of Hammurabi carved in stone
Everybody equal when the verdict shown
[Outro]
Carved in stone
Carved in stone
Babylon
Yeah
