[The Gumiho (구미호, literally "nine-tailed fox") is a legendary creature from Korean mythology and folklore. According to tradition, a fox that lives for 1,000 years accumulates spiritual power and transforms into a Gumiho, gaining the ability to shape-shift—most notably into a breathtakingly beautiful woman who lures unsuspecting men. Unlike the fox spirits of neighboring Chinese (Huli jing) or Japanese (Kitsune) folklore, which are often portrayed as morally ambiguous or benevolent, the Korean Gumiho is traditionally depicted as inherently sinister and carnivorous.
