Lyrics
[Verse 1] I was miles away, just trying to do my best,
Helping Mama from a different state,
Trying to carry burdens I could barely hold,
Trying to keep the bills from getting late.
Then a bank account went into the red,
And anger spoke the words I can't take back,
Over something that could've been forgiven,
I turned my heart and walked away from that.
I stopped calling, let the silence grow,
Never dreamed I'd run out of time,
Never thought the last words left between us
Would be the ones that haunted me at night.
[Pre-Chorus] Then my sister called, her voice cut through the air,
Said, "Mama's gone," and I just froze right there.
They found her on the bathroom floor,
And days had passed before they found her there.
I can't explain the way that moment broke me,
Or all the things I wish that I had said,
'Cause the one thing I would give the world for
Is one more chance to talk to her again.
[Chorus] Oh, Mama, if you hear me,
There's a thousand things I need to say,
I'm sorry for the silence,
For the love I let my anger push away.
I'd give anything to tell you
That an overdraft ain't worth a heart that's torn,
But some apologies stay trapped inside you
When the one who needs them is gone.
And I carry you through every season,
Through the tears and all these years of pain,
I can't go back and make it right, Mama,
But I'll love you till I see you again.
[Verse 2] A few years passed, another mother
Was fighting for the time she had left,
My mother-in-law was growing weaker,
And she wanted home, not a hospital bed.
She wanted family gathered near her,
Wanted love to be the last thing she would know,
So, we opened up our doors and held her,
And we walked with her the final road.
But before we brought her home to us,
At the hospital, she looked into my eyes,
And she spoke the words that broke me open,
Words I never knew she'd realized.
[Pre-Chorus 2] "You've got a second chance to make it right,
It won't take away the pain you feel,
It won't undo the loss you carry for your mama,
But maybe this will help your heart to heal."
I broke down crying right there before her,
How could she know the ache I kept inside?
She saw the wound I'd carried all those years,
And gave me one more chance to say goodbye.
[Chorus] Oh, Mama, if you hear me,
There's a thousand things I couldn't say,
But another mother's hand was placed in mine,
And love found a different kind of way.
I couldn't change the past between us,
Couldn't bring you back or turn back time,
But I could give her peace and hold her close,
And let that second chance be yours and mine.
No, it didn't take away the hurting,
Didn't make the tears all disappear,
But I gave her all the love I wished I'd given you,
And somehow, Mama, I could feel you near
[Verse 3] We made her home a place of comfort,
With her family gathered by her side,
No lonely room beneath the hospital lights,
Just the ones she loved and arms open wide.
I did for her what she had asked for,
Held her close and loved her through the end,
And though my heart was breaking all over,
I found a little room for peace within.
Still, both those mothers left their marks here,
Two different kinds of sorrow in my soul,
One reminds me of the words left unspoken,
One reminds me love can help make broken whole.
And I know that healing isn't forgetting,
And forgiveness doesn't mean the pain is gone,
Sometimes love is learning how to carry on,
All the things we wish we'd done before they're gone
[Bridge] Now every Saturday night, we gather,
And we say our mamas' names out loud,
Send a little love up to the heavens,
Like they're sitting with us in the crowd.
It's our little way of saying,
"You are still a part of who we are."
Though we cannot hold you here among us,
We still feel you in our hearts.
We raise our voices for our mothers,
For the ones we miss with every breath,
For the ones who taught us how to love,
And the ones we loved right through their deaths.
And if heaven has a porch light shining,
I hope you see us from above,
Two mothers, one family still remembering,
Still saying your names with love
[Final Chorus] Oh, Mama, can you hear us?
Every Saturday night, we call your names,
Through the laughter and the tears, we're sharing,
Through the memories that time cannot erase.
I still wish that I could tell you
I'm sorry for the silence and the pain,
But I hope you know my heart never stopped loving you,
Even when I turned away.
And to the mother who gave me a second chance,
I'll carry what you taught me all my life,
You couldn't take away the scars I carried,
But you helped me see the other side.
Two dear mothers, two forever heartaches,
Two kinds of love that time cannot undo,
And every Saturday night, we're right here, Mama,
Sending all our love to you
[Outro] So, if you see two candles burning,
Or hear us speaking to the stars,
That's just our family saying, "We still love you,"
To the mothers who live inside our hearts.
You may be gone from flesh and bone,
But you're never really gone away.
We'll keep your memories alive forever,
Every Saturday night, we'll say your names.
Oh, Mama...
We'll still loving you.
Every Saturday night,
We'll still loving you
