Set Di People Free

[Roots reggae beat kicks in – heavy bassline, slow drum skank, horn section lead]

Woah-oh, yeah, yeah...

Hear dem coming inna di night time.

Rasta speak di truth, dem can't silence di voice of di people.

Hear me now!

[Verse 1]

Children running down di street,

people crying and feel the heat,

Babylon system a press down hard,

Dem bring dem gun fire right inna di yard.

Poor man a cry out, "Where is di peace?"

Brutality rising from di wicked police.

Dem talk 'bout democracy, dem talk 'bout di law,

But a pure corruption and oppression we saw.

[Chorus]

Break down di chains, set di people free!

No more politics, no false liberty!

Babylon system a work for di few,

Righteousness a come fi sweep over you.

Set di people free from di party line,

Divinity and love a di only sign.

[Verse 2]

Dem want you vote red, dem want you vote green,

Tricking di people inna di same old scene.

Dem make promise today, dem forget tomorrow,

Leaving di youth inna pain and sorrow.

Dem use di badge fi exercise power,

But Babylon downfall a come in dis hour.

We no want no part of dem political scheme,

We living di truth, dis a no lie or a dream.

[Chorus]

Break down di chains, set di people free!

No more politics, no false liberty!

Babylon system a work for di few,

Righteousness a come fi sweep over you.

Set di people free from di party line,

Divinity and love a di only sign.

[Bridge]

[Dub section – bass heavy, horn echo, percussion]

No politician can save a man soul,

Dem only fight fi di silver and gold.

Stand firm on your feet, know your own mind,

Leave di lies of di system behind.

Higher meditation, unity and love,

Guidance coming from di heavens above!

[Verse 3]

Wipe away di tear from di mother eye,

Too many innocent youth gotta die.

Justice a flow like a river so deep,

Di shepherd dem wicked, dem scattering di sheep.

So we step out a di line, we no play dem game,

Every human life a go honor di Name.

[Chorus]

Break down di chains, set di people free!

No more politics, no false liberty!

Babylon system a work for di few,

Righteousness a come fi sweep over you.

Set di people free from di party line,

Divinity and love a di only sign.

[Outro]

Set dem free... set di people free...

No political games no more.

Babylon falling, yeah...

Truth and rights a go prevail.

Roots reggae music play on...

[Chant and dub echo fade out]
