Lyrics
[Verse 1] The yard was a jungle, the fence was the line
With grass on our knees and a cap on our mind
We built us a rocket with cardboard and tape
A backyard mission, a Great Escape
The streetlights were planets, the trees were so tall
We were the kings, and the world was so small
[Chorus] We were giants in the driveway, masters of the street
With the whole wide galaxy beneath our feet
Before the clock was ticking, before the shadows grew
Just a backyard astronaut staring at the blue
Yeah, we held the whole universe inside a bouncy ball
Back when a wish could conquer it all
[Verse 2] The summer was golden, the days never end
With the sound of the crickets, a porch for a friend
We didn’t need a telescope to see through the night
We just sat on the swings and took off in flight
Gravity was nothing, just a rule we could break
Back when every dream was ours to take
[Bridge] But the cardboard folded and the tape started peeling
The world got real and we lost that feeling
But I close my eyes and I’m back in the sun
The kid who was flying before he could run
[Chorus] We were giants in the driveway, masters of the street
With the whole wide galaxy beneath our feet
Before the clock was ticking, before the shadows grew
Just a backyard astronaut staring at the blue
Yeah, we held the whole universe inside a bouncy ball
Back when a wish could conquer it all
[Outro] Still looking up...
Through the window of the years...
A tiny heartbeat drumming...
Through the laughter and the tears.
