Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I called her late on Sunday
Just to hear her say my name
She laughed about the weather
Said the roses came too late this year
I almost hung up quicker
Got caught up in my busy day
But something made me linger
And I'm glad I didn't walk away
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause tomorrow is nobody's promise
And today is all we really own
[Chorus]
Don't wait for the eulogy
To say the words they need to hear
Don't wait for the goodbye
To hold them close while they are here
Speak it now speak it loud
While their heart can still receive
Don't wait for the eulogy
To show the love you always mean
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh
Tell them while you can
Oh-oh-oh
While they understand
[Verse 2]
My sister kept her letters
In a shoebox by her bed
She always meant to send them
But she said she'd do it when she had the time
Now the words just sit in silence
And the paper's turning old and gray
I won't make the same mistake
I'm gonna say it all today
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause tomorrow is nobody's promise
And today is all we really own
[Chorus]
Don't wait for the eulogy
To say the words they need to hear
Don't wait for the goodbye
To hold them close while they are here
Speak it now speak it loud
While their heart can still receive
Don't wait for the eulogy
To show the love you always mean
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh
Tell them while you can
Oh-oh-oh
While they understand
[Bridge]
Mama taught me kindness
Papa taught me pride
But nothing taught me better
Than watching time just slip on by
So I'll pick up the telephone
I'll show up at their door
I won't save my best for never
I won't hold it anymore
[Chorus]
Don't wait for the eulogy
To say the words they need to hear
Don't wait for the goodbye
To hold them close while they are here
Speak it now speak it loud
While their heart can still receive
Don't wait for the eulogy
To show the love you always mean
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh
Tell them while you can
Oh-oh-oh
While they understand
[Outro]
While they understand
Mm-mm-mm
Tell them while you can
