Lyrics
[Verse 1]
My granddad sat me on a porch step
Said boy the world don't hand out maps
You watch the river find its own way
You watch the heron and the trap
[Pre-Chorus]
Look at what the morning shows you
Listen when the old ones call
Learn the lesson slow
[Chorus]
Look listen learn
That's the Cherokee way
Look listen learn
Take it day by day
Nobody hands you the answer
You earn it as you go
Look listen learn
That's the only way I know
[Verse 2]
I left that porch for a city
Chased a dollar and a brighter sign
Got lost in all that noise and hurry
Forgot the creek forgot the pine
[Pre-Chorus]
Then a stranger shared his supper
Told me stories of his own
Learn the lesson slow
[Chorus]
Look listen learn
That's the Cherokee way
Look listen learn
Take it day by day
Nobody hands you the answer
You earn it as you go
Look listen learn
That's the only way I know
[Bridge]
Seven generations down the line
Seven generations still to come
What I do today is what they'll find
So I better do it right for them
[Chorus]
Look listen learn
That's the Cherokee way
Look listen learn
Take it day by day
Nobody hands you the answer
You earn it as you go
Look listen learn
That's the only way I know
[Outro]
Look listen learn
Look listen learn
(The old ones call)
Look listen learn
