Lyrics
[Intro - Spoken/Warped]
Mm... hear the needle skip
Mm-hmm... catch that loop
[Verse 1]
Drove past the field where the tall grass bends
Radio crackling on a borrowed AM band
My father's old record spinning in my head
Static from the stations of the things he said
Tractor rusting in the morning dew
Scratched a pattern in the dust I knew
From a sample of a choir in 1972
Found a four-bar loop and I pulled it through
[Pre-Chorus]
And the beat...
And the beat keeps turning
And the needle...
And the needle keeps burning
[Chorus]
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Let the dub wash over every heartbeat
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Cut it up, let the fragments find their feet
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
[Verse 2]
Built a sequencer from salvaged wire
Sampled crickets and a barnyard choir
Pitch-shifted sunset into something higher
Tin roof tapping to a trance arrangement
Cross-fader bleeding on the wooden floor
Every crackle makes me want it more
Saw a satellite blink and trace the score
Somewhere between the analog and the digital war
[Pre-Chorus]
And the bass...
And the bass keeps rolling
And the sky...
And the sky keeps falling
[Chorus]
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Let the dub wash over every heartbeat
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Cut it up, let the fragments find their feet
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
[Drop - Atmospheric Electronics]
(Breathe in...)
(Breathe out...)
[Bridge]
I rebuilt the chorus on an eight-track reel
Added reverb from a broken wheel
The choir sang backwards just to feel
Something real... something real
Tape hiss like the wind through the pines
Every revolution redefines
The melody I borrowed from the power lines
Humming low, humming all the time
[Guitar Solo - Country Slide Through Filtered Static]
[Breakdown]
Just the kick drum
And the vinyl hum
Just the kick drum
And the coming undone
[Build]
Stack the frequencies higher
Stack the frequencies higher
Tape loops in the fire
Tape loops in the fire
[Chorus - Full Arrangement]
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Let the dub wash over every heartbeat
Circle back, circle back through the wheat
Cut it up, let the fragments find their feet
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
Oh-oh-oh... rewind
[Outro - Fading]
Mm... needle lifts
Mm-hmm... and drifts...
