Lyrics
[Chorus] Makeda hold onto love
You’re a child made by holy hands up above
Remember you’re strong, you carry the dawn
The eldest, but you’re never on your own
[Post-Chorus] Oh Makeda, hold on
Oh Makeda, be strong
[Verse 2] Some are black and some are white
All siblings under Heaven’s light
You’re oldest, you will lead
But respect is what we all need
[Pre-Chorus] Oh, your time will come, but please don’t fear
We’ll gather round and shed a tear
But freedom’s yours to live your days
Embraced by love and boundless grace
[Chorus] Makeda hold onto love
You’re a child made by holy hands up above
Remember you’re strong, you carry the dawn
The eldest, but you’re never on your own
[Post-Chorus] Oh Makeda, hold on
Oh Makeda, be strong
[Bridge] You’ll rest in peace, you’ll rest your head
Dreaming in your brass bed
Your siblings will pray every night
Hoping you’re sleeping in gentle light
[Chorus] Makeda hold onto love
You’re a child made by holy hands up above
Remember you’re strong, you carry the dawn
The eldest, but you’re never on your own
[Post-Chorus] Oh Makeda, hold on
Oh Makeda, be strong
[Outro] You’re beautiful, just as you are
Loved by God, near or far
Keep your faith, lift your face
And surround yourself with grace
