Lyrics
[Intro] You leaving already?
Mm.
That's a shame.
Let that taxi go.
Ooh!
[Verse 1] There's a taxi waiting by the door
You wave it on and ask for one song more
I say, "Your place is only two streets down"
You say, "Then why we gotta get there now?"
We walk so close our shoulders keep the beat
Your heels are making music in the street
I try to ask you when we'll meet again
You say, "Who told you this was gonna end?"
Aah!
Tell me again.
[Pre-Chorus] I say, "You could be home by now"
You say, "I know"
I say, "We took the wrong way round"
You say, "Let's go"
Ooh-ooh!
Well, let's go.
[Chorus] Take the long way
Round and around
I like the way we're getting lost
On our own side of town
Take the long way
We got time to lose
Baby, every little detour
Brings me closer to you
Aah-ah!
Closer, baby.
Mm!
[Verse 2] We find a diner near the railway line
You slide into the seat right next to mine
You steal my fries like you've got every right
Then tell me things you never say by daylight
The waiter stacks the chairs along the wall
You say, "We barely went anywhere at all"
I pay the bill, you're waiting by the door
Already picking out a street we should explore
Ooh!
You're enjoying this.
So am I.
[Pre-Chorus] I say, "You could be home by now"
You say, "I know"
I say, "We took the wrong way round"
You say, "Let's go"
Aah!
Don't wait on me.
[Chorus] Take the long way
Round and around
I like the way we're getting lost
On our own side of town
Take the long way
We got time to lose
Baby, every little detour
Brings me closer to you
Ooh-ooh!
Right there.
Aah!
[Break] You know this corner?
We been here twice.
You keep walking past your street.
That's all right.
Mm!
Your hand in my pocket—
Looking for something?
Aah!
Keep looking.
[Solo] [Saxophone Solo] [Bridge] Your porch light's on
The sky turns blue
I've got your number
You've got my jacket, too
You turn the key
Then look at me
"Before you go—
You want some company?"
Ooh!
Ask me properly.
[Final Chorus] Take the long way
Round and around
You got me finding little streets
I never knew in this town
Take the long way
We got time to lose
Baby, every little detour
Brings me closer to you
Aah-ah!
Take the long way!
Ooh!
Just a little longer.
I could've been home hours ago
But I'm right where I wanna be
Mm!
[Outro] Two streets down
Three hours gone
You’ve still got my jacket on
Take the long way
Next time, too
Ooh-ooh!
Especially with you
Aah…
[Chorus] Take the long way
Round and around
I like the way we're getting lost
On our own side of town
Take the long way
We got time to lose
Baby, every little detour
Brings me closer to you
Aah-ah!
Closer, baby.
Mm!
Come Closer Baby.
Mm! yea!
