Youngsters

[Verse 1]

I was seventeen with a borrowed truck

Mama hollered from the porch don't stay out late

We had a cooler full of ice and a radio

And a whole wide county line to celebrate

[Pre-Chorus]

We didn't know a thing

But we knew enough to sing

[Chorus]

We were youngsters

Running wild through the summer pines

We were youngsters

Tearing up them gravel miles

Daddy said slow down

Mama said come home

We were youngsters

And the night was ours to own

[Post-Chorus]

Oh-oh oh-oh

And the night was ours to own

Oh-oh oh-oh

[Verse 2]

Jenny wore her hair down past her shoulders

Billy swore he'd marry her someday

We parked out by the water tower

And swore we'd never move away

[Pre-Chorus]

We were dumb and free

And that was fine with me

[Chorus]

We were youngsters

Running wild through the summer pines

We were youngsters

Tearing up them gravel miles

Daddy said slow down

Mama said come home

We were youngsters

And the night was ours to own

[Post-Chorus]

Oh-oh oh-oh

And the night was ours to own

Oh-oh oh-oh

[Bridge]

Now I'm thirty-nine and the truck is gone

Jenny moved to Dallas with a boy named Ron

Billy's got a mortgage and a minivan

But I still hear that radio when I close my eyes and

[Chorus]

We were youngsters

Running wild through the summer pines

We were youngsters

Tearing up them gravel miles

Daddy said slow down

Mama said come home

We were youngsters

And the night was ours to own

[Post-Chorus]

Oh-oh oh-oh

And the night was ours to own

Oh-oh oh-oh

We were youngsters

[Outro]

Yeah we were youngsters

Youngsters
