Lyrics
[Intro]
Mm
Mm-hmm
Oh-oh
[Verse 1]
You call me dangerous but you never checked the door
I count the candles and I let them burn down slow
Something sweet behind my teeth a bitter aftertaste
You wanted secrets so I carved one in your palm
[Pre-Chorus]
Set the table set the timer set the trap
Every vow we made is humming in the walls
I could hold you I could hollow you out
Either way you're staying till the morning comes
[Chorus]
Come closer to the fire
I know how to pull you under
Come closer to the fire
Lay your whole name on the altar
Come closer to the fire
Every scar becomes a doorway
Come closer to the fire
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh, oh-oh
(Ooh) closer to the fire
[Verse 2]
I am patient as a tide that eats the shore
You are reckless as a match inside a field
Somewhere past the quiet there's a room with no lock
And you keep knocking even when I tell you stop
[Pre-Chorus]
Set the table set the timer set the trap
Something ancient in the way you say my name
I could keep you I could cut the cord tonight
Either way you're not the same when morning comes
[Chorus]
Come closer to the fire
I know how to pull you under
Come closer to the fire
Lay your whole name on the altar
Come closer to the fire
Every scar becomes a doorway
Come closer to the fire
[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh, oh-oh
(Ooh) closer to the fire
[Bridge]
Soft then sudden then sharp then sure
The ink is wet the page is torn
I hold the light I hold the dark
Both of them are mine to pour
[Chorus]
Come closer to the fire
I know how to pull you under
Come closer to the fire
Lay your whole name on the altar
Come closer to the fire
Every scar becomes a doorway
Come closer to the fire
[Outro]
It is felt
It is ours
Ours
