Lyrics
[Verse 1]
He sits quiet at the close of day
A thousand thoughts he never learned to say
Lonely highways taught him how to roam
Still he trusts his heart will find a home
He keeps a little greenhouse green and warm
Watches every new leaf like a held promise
Mountain mornings wait inside his mind
A small piece of heaven and a garden of food
[Pre-Chorus]
The world may never see the fights he won
Or the nights he kept on trying when hope was gone
[Chorus]
He's a man behind the heart with a story left to tell
He's been through a little heaven and a little hell
He's got love he wants to give and dreams he won't release
And a thousand seeds of kindness he is still trying to sow
He ain't perfect he ain't fearless he gets lost along the way
But he still believes that love can make a brighter day
When the years have drifted by and the world has moved along
May they remember not his troubles but the love inside this song
[Verse 2]
Happiness hides in a movie on the screen
In a puppy running circles through the yard
Cats asleep beside a warming cup
He closes his eyes and sees that house upon the land
He dreams of vegetables beneath a mountain sky
Of something beautiful grown slow with every passing time
Life is precious days don't come again
So he's learning how to cherish every friend
[Pre-Chorus]
He can't change the road behind him can't predict the road ahead
But he's learning there is beauty in the life he's living yet
[Bridge]
He is learning love is not possession
And a heart must still be free
Patience can be stronger
Than the things we wish to see
You can't make somebody love you
Can't demand what must be true
But you can live with kindness
In everything you say and do
And the greatest thing a man can leave
When his time on earth is through
Is a trail of hearts made lighter
For the kindness that he knew
[Guitar Solo]
[Final Chorus]
He's a man behind the heart and his story's not yet done
He is reaching for the mountains still believing in the sun
He's got miles left on his journey he's got gardens left to grow
And there's so much more to living than the things we think we know
He ain't perfect he keeps learning he is growing every day
He is finding out that peace can be a brave and beautiful way
And if someone asks what mattered when the final night is long
Let them hear the heart of Dunafon
In the words of this song
[Outro]
Keep on planting keep on dreaming
Keep your heart both kind and strong
You are writing your tomorrow
And your life is still your song
The man behind the heart
Has been here all along
