The Law Come Running

[Verse 1]

Ima Lasman rides a bay mare through the pines

Boots scuffed to nothing from a hundred county lines

Sheriff's got my picture pinned up in Abilene

I ain't slept in seven days I ain't been clean

They say I shot a man in Reno over pride

Truth is I just walked away and let him ride

But a story grows like kudzu once it starts

Now there's bounty hunters reading me like cards

[Pre-Chorus]

I never wanted blood

I only wanted land

A little stretch of sky

And a woman's steady hand

[Chorus]

So let the law come running

Let the dogs all bay

Ima Lasman ain't the kind to kneel and pray

Let the wire hum

Let the river rise

I'll be gone before the morning hits your eyes

[Post-Chorus]

Ride on ride on

(ride on ride on)

Ride on ride on

(ride on ride on)

[Verse 2]

I traded my last dollar for a horse that don't quit

Slept beneath a bridge with the river running swift

My daddy was a rough man mean as winter hail

Taught me how to disappear and how to leave no trail

Mama kept a bible and a bottle on the shelf

She loved a man who couldn't even love himself

I carry both their ghosts in the saddle of my chest

A restless, reckless, ragged, running, wounded west

[Pre-Chorus]

I never wanted blood

I only wanted land

A little stretch of sky

And a woman's steady hand

[Chorus]

So let the law come running

Let the dogs all bay

Ima Lasman ain't the kind to kneel and pray

Let the wire hum

Let the river rise

I'll be gone before the morning hits your eyes

[Post-Chorus]

Ride on ride on

(ride on ride on)

Ride on ride on

(ride on ride on)

[Bridge]

Maybe up in Montana there's a valley I could keep

Maybe somewhere colder where the snow is twice as deep

Maybe I'm a fool to think a man can start again

Maybe I'm a fool but I'm a fool who rides the wind

[Guitar Solo]

[Chorus]

So let the law come running

Let the dogs all bay

Ima Lasman ain't the kind to kneel and pray

Let the wire hum

Let the river rise

I'll be gone before the morning hits your eyes

[Outro Chorus]

Let the law come running

(let the law come running)

Let the dogs all bay

(let the dogs all bay)

Ima Lasman rides until his dying day

(let him ride let him ride)
