Akkad

[Intro] Sargon Sargon

Mm-hmm

Bow down

[Verse] I rose from the river as a gardener's son

Sargon in the flesh

Every king before me kneels or he's done

I carved my name in stone so the ages would know

From the cradle of cities I built me a throne

My tongue was a blade and my army was drought

Wherever I pointed the land just gave out

(Just gave out)

[Chorus] Akkad

Akkad

I made the four corners mine

Akkad

Akkad

Drank the world like wine

Semitic storm on a Sumerian shore

I rule what I ruin and I ruin some more

[Post-Chorus] Burn it

Burn it

Na-na-na

Take it

Take it

Ra-ra-ra

[Verse 2] Enheduanna wrote my glory in hymn

Daughter of the moon and she scribbled my sin

I stitched every city-state under one thread

The gutters ran red where my enemies bled

Naram-Sin my grandson took the title of god

So the priests bowed low and the people applauded

[Chorus] Akkad

Akkad

I made the four corners mine

Akkad

Akkad

Drank the world like wine

Semitic storm on a Sumerian shore

I rule what I ruin and I ruin some more

[Post-Chorus] Burn it

Burn it

Na-na-na

Take it

Take it

Ra-ra-ra

[Bridge] Then the Gutians came

Then the Gutians came

And the walls I stacked turned to dust in the flame

No heir could hold what the father had gripped

The empire I welded got split and it slipped

[Verse 3] I was legend before I was ever a man

Sumerian scribes put my saga in sand

They cursed my name in the temples I raised

I laughed from the grave at the fires they blazed

So call me a tyrant call me a ghost

I am the king that they feared the most

[Chorus] Akkad

Akkad

I made the four corners mine

Akkad

Akkad

Drank the world like wine

Semitic storm on a Sumerian shore

I rule what I ruin and I ruin some more

[Post-Chorus] Burn it

Burn it

Na-na-na

Take it

Take it

Ra-ra-ra

[Verse 4] They dug through my palace and found not a crown

Just tablets of curses they couldn't write down

The scholars all stutter when reading my name

A gardener's boy who rewrote the whole game

My statue got blinded by men with a chisel

They thought they could scrub out the blood and the drizzle

But mud keeps a memory better than gold

And the Tigris still carries the stories I told

[Verse 5] I dreamed of a city that swallowed the sun

Where every last rebel got taught how to run

No wall was too tall and no river too wide

I fed opposition to dogs at my side

They built me a legend then burned it for fuel

A shepherd who sharpened his crook into rule

So sharpen your pencils and soften your tone

The king of the dirt never sleeps on a throne

[Bridge 2] Count the skulls in the sand

(Count 'em)

Count the years I was banned

(Count 'em)

Every empire that rose copied me for a while

Then rotted the same way I rotted the Nile

[Verse 6] Sargon the shadow, Sargon the blade

Sargon the debt that the heavens delayed

I don't haunt a house, I haunt history books

I live in the space between killers and crooks

So if you should whisper my name in the dark

Be ready to finish the war that I start

The cradle was mine and the coffin is too

Akkad forever, and so are you

[Outro] Sargon

Sargon

Mm-hmm

Bow down

Bow down

(Bow down)
